I am focusing on art this week with some writing on the side. The spring semester is done and now the real work begins—creating my own art from what I’ve learned over the last four months. I took two classes, one on collage and assemblage, the other on graphic design. Over the course of the last three years, I’ve learned a lot about art. It’s time to figure out what I want to make on my own, without a deadline or a grade hanging over my head. At the moment, paper tops my list, hand-printing it, cutting it, etc. I started the week with a couple quick collages, but then moved onto longer and more intricate pieces. I ordered some colored cardstock. When the multipack lacked the colors that I wanted, I pulled out my gel plate and created my own hues and textures.
By the end of the week, I took two days to create my “Oranges” collage, with the idea for a series formulating in my head. Two friends, from opposite sides of the country remarked that the design would look great as fabric. I signed onto my long dormant Spoonflower account and opened up my Adobe Illustrator. Thanks to my graphic design class I understand the program a lot better. A couple hours later, I posted a new fabric pattern to my shop. Check out the design here.

NOTE: All work posted is my own. I do not use AI, and never will, when it comes to creating my art and writing.
Love this, Deborah! Especially that you created your own colors, and are taking the collages further. The oranges fabric looks great, I love that I can see the marks from your hand-printing in the pattern :)
That's very cool. Can I order some for a future quilt?
